Natural Rubber

Common Names: Natural rubber (NR)/Gum Rubber
Physical Properties: High tear strength, high strength, flexibility, rebound elasticity, adhesive properties, abrasion resistance, low temperature resistance.

  • Tear Resistance: Very Good
  • Abrasion Resistance: Excellent
  • Rebound: Excellent
  • Impact Resistance: Excellent

Uses: Gaskets, Matting, Belting, Noise abatement, Tires, Flooring.
Durometer Range: 20-100 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -60F to 175F
Chemical Resistance: Moderate chemicals, Alcohols, aldehydes, ketones

Silicone

Common Name: Silicone
Physical Properties: Decent physical properties. Excellent temperature properties (high and low)

  • Tear Resistance: Poor
  • Abrasion Resistance: Fair
  • Rebound: Very Good
  • Impact Resistance: Fair

Uses: High temperature applications, seals, gaskets, O-rings
Durometer Range: 30-80 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -60F to 550F
Chemical Resistance: Moderate oxidizing chemicals, ozone, sodium hydroxide

Neoprene®

Common Names: Neoprene® (chemically known as Polychloroprene)
Physical Properties: Good flame resistance/flame retarding, weathering resistant, decent resistance to petroleum products, excellent adhesion properties.

  • Tear Resistance: Good
  • Abrasion Resistance: Excellent
  • Rebound: Very Good
  • Impact Resistance: Very Good

Uses: Gaskets, Washers, Seals, outdoor applications
Durometer Range: 15-95 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -50F to 250F
Chemical Resistance: Animal fats, vegetable fats, ozone, oils, greases, and oxidizing chemicals.

Nitrile

Common Name: Nitrile, Buna, Buna-N, NBR
Physical Properties: Excellent resistance to petroleum-based fluids such as gas, oil, and hydraulic fluids. Good resistance to acids and alkalis. Wide range of operating temperatures.

  • Tear Resistance: Good
  • Abrasion Resistance: Very Good
  • Rebound: Good
  • Impact Resistance: Good

Uses: Seals, gaskets, plugs, caps exposed to petroleum products.
Durometer Range: 30-95 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -30F to 250F
Chemical Resistance: Oils, greases, hydrocarbons, hydraulic fluids, and many chemicals.

Viton®

Common Names: Viton® (chemically known as a Fluoroelastomer)
Physical Properties: Excellent air resistance, excellent oil resistance, performs at both low and high temperatures, very good chemical resistance.

  • Tear Resistance: Good
  • Abrasion Resistance: Good
  • Rebound: Low to Moderate Temperature: Fair. Moderate to High Temperature: Excellent.
  • Impact Resistance: Good

Uses: Gaskets, Washers, Seals, Automotive, Aerospace, Chemical Processing,
Durometer Range: 60-90 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -10F to 600F
Chemical Resistance: Acids, animal and vegetable oil, petroleum products, aliphatic, aromatic, and halogenated hydrocarbons.

EPDM

Common Names: EPDM, EPT, EP Rubber
Physical Properties: Resistance to oxidation, ozone, abrasion, chemicals, sunlight, and aging. Poor resistance to solvents, petroleum-based products, and hydrocarbons.

  • Tear Resistance: Fair
  • Abrasion Resistance: Very Good
  • Rebound: Good
  • Impact Resistance: Very Good

Uses: Gaskets, Washers, Seals, Automotive, Aerospace, Chemical Processing,
Durometer Range: 30-90 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -75F to 350F
Chemical Resistance: Ozone, oxidizing chemicals, animal and vegetable oils.

Butyl

Common Names: Butyl
Physical Properties: Very good weathering resistance, low permeability to air, excellent dielectric properties. Poor resistance to petroleum-based fluids.

  • Tear Resistance: Good
  • Abrasion Resistance: Good
  • Rebound: Poor
  • Impact Resistance: Good

Uses: Gaskets, Washers, Seals, Automotive, Aerospace, Chemical Processing,
Durometer Range: 40-80 Shore A
Operating Temperature: -60F to 300F
Chemical Resistance: Acids, animal and vegetable oils, greases, ozone, oxidizing chemicals.
