Polyurethane Rod

Polyurethane Rod

Polyurethane rod stock is manufactured with the same adherence to quality as all of our other polyurethane rubber product lines. Additionally, we offer a variety of standard sizes in your choice of durometer and color at guaranteed competitive pricing and lead times. Custom sizes are available upon request.

Polyurethane Round Rod Advantages

Urethane is one of the most durable replacements for common materials such as UHMW, Delrin, Nylon, and HDPE. It provides a unique resistance to deformation, abrasion, and impact. Cast urethane resins also allow endless combinations in terms of hardness, size, and color. Because of its physical properties, urethane rod provides a much longer useful life when compared to traditional materials such as TPU polymers and rubber. Therefore, it is often used in their place. Furthermore, cast urethane carries the elasticity of rubber with enhanced properties and seemingly endless versatility.

Built-In Versatility

Polyurethane rod can range in hardness from as soft as a piece of chewing gum to as hard as a bowling ball. This combined with its liquid starting state creates maximum adaptability. We manufacture all of our polyurethane rod products using machinable urethane formulations that can be turned and milled.  Keep in mind that softer durometer urethanes are much more difficult to machine. Generally, 90A and 65D are easy to machine whereas anything below becomes more difficult but still doable.

Uses

Common uses for rod stock include the manufacture of tubes, washers, bushings, vibration dampeners, spacers, plugs, and prototyping. For example, we often see urethane rod stock being turned into various bushings and washers as a replacement for common hard plastics. Specifically, to replace materials that do not have elastic memory or good crack resistance.

Standard Polyurethane Rod Stock

Our standard polyurethane rod is stocked and ready to ship in durometers of 70A and 90A with colors in red and black. You can also order in any durometer from 40A-90A and any color if you need a more custom option, however, lead times may be a few days longer compared to our stocked materials. All urethane rod is supplied in diameters from 1/2″ to 4″  and lengths of 12″, 24″, 36″, and 48″. In addition, we also offer custom diameters up to 10″ upon request.

Custom Material Options

Additionally, we offer urethane rods in high-performance, Vulkollan® equivalent substitutes. These compounds perform at the same level or better than Vulkollan®. Additionally, these materials, especially our UNIDUR 5000HP blend, are a staple for industries needing low-cost Vulkollan® equivalent materials that perform just like Vulkollan®. Utilizing these new polyurethane resins also allows us to introduce variety in color. Traditionally, Vulkollan® comes in the standard off-brown color, whereas our substitutes have the ability to take on pigments, so you can order urethane rod or urethane parts in whichever color your operation requires.

Furthermore, FDA compliant, TDI, MDI, TODI, polyester, and polyether urethanes are available upon request.

Our standard durometer range is 40A-90A. Also, Shore 65D is standard and readily available. Specialty soft and hard formulations are supplied upon special order request (10A-75D).

We offer both high and low-volume production runs!
